Learning to Fail

famous failures Today’s reflection is about changing the bad rap that failure gets and how we feel about failing.

Replace Failure

Go ahead, take a breath and think back on times you believed you failed… Now, replace the word “fail” with the word “learn.” Run that through your mind and say it outloud. How do you feel?

Failures We Adore

Perhaps the world’s most famous “failure” is America’s beloved Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln lost a business, had a “nervous breakdown,” and lost several elections. We all know the rest of the story…

How about these other famous failures? What if they had stopped with the first tough failure. The world would have missed out on amazing feats!

Practice Failing

This week, try something you have failed/learned in the past. You might make it something simple like… Edison

Cook a dish you tried before that didn’t turn out.

Walk up that mountain that you couldn’t get to the top of in the past.

Apply for that job you don’t believe you’re quite ready for.

Make that difficult conversation happen that you backed away from.

What else might you try and learn from?

No Failures, Only Learners

As Buckminister Fuller wrote, “There are no failures, only learners.” Failing/learning takes practice, my friends. Learn little and learn big. Not only will you be in very good company but the world is waiting to see your GREATNESS!

P.S. Love to hear about a time you thought you’d failed but by now seeing it as learning, you can inspire greatness in others!
